Healthy Eating Grocery List

While pondering my refrigerator  tonight for some dinner I realized that I really needed to get groceries and I figured maybe it would be something you guys would be interested in. Since I have started to eat healthy in March I have started to find lots of little things that I truly love that are healthy-ish.  I have been very good at avoiding temptations while grocery shopping just remember one little tip don't go looking for groceries when you are hungry, you will come home with everything.
Lets get started with the goodies:

  • Egg Whites- perfect for a breakfast burrito or french toast with less cholesterol
  • Greek Yogurt- Key lime by Dannon Oikos is my all time favorite
  • Fresh Fruit- Strawberries, Blueberries, Bananas, Nectarines
  • Berry Blast Juice- Bolthouse Farms Juice Smoothie-- so much berry goodness
  • Cottage Cheese- great topping on salad or just as a side
  • Jalapeno String Cheese- Spicy snack
  • Spring Mix Salad- Perfect on sandwiches, wraps, and in salads
  • Frozen Veggies- Steamable ones are the best and quickest....watch that cheese sauce
  • Bagel Thins- 100 calories for bagel instead of 300
  • Chicken Breast- BBQ Seasoned by Oscar Meyer is the BOMB
  • Tortillas- perfect for all wraps and breakfast burritos
  • Peanut Butter Brownies- Fiber One! 90 calories for a brownie with fiber, OH YES
  • Pasta- Whole grain... I can't give up my pasta just yet...
Well hopefully that will help you get some ideas for some healthy foods to add to your list-ies! I try my best to eat healthy but sometimes I fail. I don't let that get me down you just need to move forward and focus on the next meal. Oh, and don't forget the most important thing water ( I don't buy bottled water I just drink from the tap).

Tips to Save on Cash!!

So in my adventure of saving money for purchasing a house of my own over the last three months I have made a list of great ideas that helped me save cash in the long run and I am willing to share my ideas and hopefully they will inspire you to cut back on your spending even if it is just one of two things...

  • Do not buy bottled water-- buy a filter and reusable bottle
  • Bring your lunch to work
  • Walk to the store, bar, or work to cut back on gas
  • Use those not-so-favorite products that are under your sink or in your closets
  • Use reusable plates and dishes (not paper or Styrofoam)
  • Buy products in bulk
  • Shop at thrift stores or garage sales instead of always buying new
  • Have your own garage sale to make a little extra dough
  • Make coffee at home instead of stopping at Starbucks every morning
  • Avoid the vending machine
  • Don't feel guilty if you don't buy candy from your coworkers child
  • Avoid those "quick trips" to the store for only "three items" (we all know you leave with 8)
  • Get washable cloth napkins instead of always buying paper towel
  • Limit your fast food and restaurant eating
  • Wait 8 weeks instead of 6 weeks between hair colorings
  • Rent Movies from Red Box rather than maybe $10.00 for a movie at the theatre
Not only am I saving extra cash to add to my down payment I am also collecting my coins to purchase a kitchen table that I have had my eyes on for years! Sometimes having a short-term loan is all you need to dig for coins at the bottom of your purse or under your car seat.

I promise you will be so excited when you check your bank account and you have an extra $50.00 or you cash in your coins and you have $78.36 to put towards a new make-up item or table (like me) You really feel very accomplished when you reach a goal or see your savings account growing, even if it is just a little, it was more than last month.  You need to stay positive just think if you went to Starbucks every morning for a $4.00 coffee that's $120.00 a month. Now if you brew at home and add some creamer for a month you would pay roughly $20.00, now that is saving money, honey!  Hopefully these tips will inspire you to save a penny or two

Enjoy!

I was working really hard a cutting down my spending money on those little trips to Target here and there but hey, when you need a new swimsuit sometimes you just have to splurge, right? I have been busy looking at homes to purchase and some I love some not so much but that's the great thing about looking at all kind of houses.  I had a great time on my birthday at the end of May. I never thought about how much money it costs to go to the bar for a night. Yikes.  I am trying to get back on track with blogging, fitness, and money!  Here is to the new journey....

Fitness & Healthy Eating

I decided that I wanted to write about what I do for fitness and how I eat healthy. Now just a little FYI eating healthy and exercises has been a RECENT change in my life. I was a sodaholic, carbaholic, and junk food lover. I didn't care what was in what I was eating, if I wanted it and it looked good I ate it. I was addicted to Pepsi for over a year. I decided this year as a New Years resolution that I wanted to get "healthier" and here is what I have been doing on my journey...

Let me give you some stats from before I started my journey...
  • Five Feet Two Inches
  • 125 pounds
  • Shirts-Medium/Small
  • Pants-27 or 3/4 (tight fitting)

Now I don't have like a large amount of body mass to lose what I am looking to do is tone up my body and feel "healthier" about myself. I know I am not FAT I am not setting out to lose like 20 pounds, HELLO I would be a skeleton, seriously.

How I started Exercising

  • Walk outside on my lunch hour- usually 20/30 minutes
  • Walk around the local zoo drive-usually 40 minutes
  • Walk on the treadmill- 30 minutes

I just simply started trying to make myself get in some kind a cardio workout at least 3 times a week. Honestly, it was a struggle at first. I was surprised by how much I had to push myself to get out and walk on lunch. Although I must say it was rather nice to get some warm weather that also assisted in my lunch workouts. As I said this was supposed to be a New Years Resolution this has taken me 3 long months of trial and error to figure out what works best for me. and during that time I haven't really lost any weight.

How I workout now...

  • Walk on my lunch hour -usually 20/30 minutes
  • Walk to work and home- usually 30 minutes each way
  • Jog/Walk around local zoo drive- 27 minutes
  • Jog/Walk on the treadmill-30 minutes
  • Strength exercises- jumping jacks, crunches, leg lifts, push-ups, (other I don't know names)

I have started jogging! Whew, one day I just was walking around the zoo and I told myself "Chelsea, just jog to the speed limit sign, to the corner of the fence" I just kept increasing it each time and then I would walk and start jogging again. That has really worked for me to get myself to jog. I am no marathon runner AT ALL but I can now jog for awhile and before I could barely do 5 minutes of jogging. I am pushing myself and I feel amazing. I can't wait until I can run all the way through the zoo! That will be an accomplishment.

How I used to eat

  • Pepsi daily- never water
  • Donuts, cake, cupcakes, candy bars
  • Carbs- Potatoes, Roman noodles, Mac N Cheese
  • Veggies- only on my pasta AKA tomato sauce
  • Fruit- does fruit snacks work?
  • Lots of fast food, oh boy, probably 2-3 times a week at least

I look back at what I ate and I still cannot believe that I don't weigh more and feel more out of shape. If I wanted something I ate it. I loved having Pepsi when I got to work with some deep fried potatoes with cheese for breakfast and pasta/french fries for lunch and dinner was usually fast food or some kind of noodles. I was terrible. I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me.

How I eat now...

  • No Pepsi- Just water (sometimes I throw in chocolate milk, I don't like regular milk)
  • No sweets- sometimes a chocolate fiber bar or occasional 1 cookie or piece of chocolate
  • Carbs- I love carbs but now I eat more whole wheat and better portion sizes
  • Veggies- these are daily I love Green Giant steamers (corn, broccoli, cauliflower)
  • Fruits- grapes, strawberries, natural applesauce
  • Fast-food- Maybe 1 time every 2 weeks

I am so proud of myself I quit drinking Pepsi, added in lots of veggies and fruits, hardly any deep fried goodies and better portion sizes. I am not expert on eating right so I just tried to add in things and take out others slowly. I do watch my sugar intake and sodium. I use MyFitnessPal application to track my calories and progress (such a great app/tool and it is FREE)

I am on my way to healthier body and let me say it is a journey. I have to remind myself daily that I am doing this for me, nobody else and if I want to reap the benefits then I need to do it.

Motivate, Motivate, Motivate...

  • Buy a cute exercise top or new running shoes
  • Try new foods don't limit yourself too much (Jalapeno String Cheese, so yummy)
  • Find a friend to workout with or talk healthy eating with
  • Read fitness articles- I love pinterest or Allwomenstalk.com- great articles
  • Set a reachable goal- For me my 21st birthday on May 21- I want to tone up and be able to run around the zoo, the whole thing
  • Buy something a size to small to motivate yourself to work out
  • Don't get down on yourself if you cheat- we all do it happens, just work it off!
  • Music- create a playlist of upbeat songs you love to jam too, rockmyrun.com

Whew, well there is my little life plan on fitness and healthy eating! Remember your fitness and healthy eating might not be the same for the next person so be open to new ideas and be willing to share yours.

Motivate*

Daily Dimes

Whew, spring is upon us! I live in way up in Wisconsin and the weather has just been outstanding for this time of year not to mention today is the first day of Spring. I thought I would throw in a cute little picture of kitty Cali just relaxing on my screen porch enjoying the Wisconsin weather....What have I been up to...
  • Exercising regularly-taking walks on my lunch breaks and jogging after work
  • Cleaning my car
  • Broke down and got some new products (Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, L'oreal Blushes and Powder, Garnier's BB Cream)
  • Ordering new scrubs for work
  • Looking at houses
  • Doing my taxes-yuck

I hopefully will have some reviews coming from some of the products I purchased earlier this year and I do have a haul blog post on those items. I have been using most of them for close to 3 months now so I probably have tested them out enough to write some reviews. I am going to cut back on buying new products because I am starting to look at houses and I am going to try to save some of the money I spend on products and cut back on my collection a little bit. This will be really tough but I know I can do it, motivate, motivate, motivate...

Review: Malibu Tan Hemp Golden Glow Bronzing Moisturizer

I had been using Oil of Olay's Gradual Self-Tanner in Medium to Dark for probably a good 2 years now until recently when I was watching Stephanie's (aka SMLx0 on YouTube) self-tanning video and she recommended Malibu Tan's Hemp Golden Glow Skin Firming Bronzing Moisturizer to help maintain your tan. Honestly, I am so impressed by this product from the first time I tried it.
This is what the bottle claims it will do "Moisturize your way to a healthy glow and toned skin year-round. Formulated with a pinch of DHA, your skin receives a kiss of color which will subtly deepen over about a week of use for a natural, soft tone. With Virgin Hemp Seed Oil for ultra moisturization and CoQ10 with a skin firming complex to tighten and tone, Golden Glow is the perfect daily lotion to enhance your skin's radiance"
Here is what I think, first thing I have to say about this is that I have been using it for probably close to a month now pretty much everyday after I shower and I have only used about 1/4 of the giant bottle. This is so exciting because with my other gradual tanners I felt like I was always buying new bottles every 3 weeks. Second, I love the smell of this product I feel like I am on a getaway everyday, and get this the best part is that it NEVER smells like self-tanner. I don't think I have ever once smelled that nasty self-tanner scent you get with Jergens Natural Glow (seriously, grosses me out). The only way I know how to describe is scent is to say tropical coconut paradise. Also, this comes with a pump which makes for quick applying. After using it for a month I do notice a little bit of a deeper color on my knees and elbows (which is expected with most self-tanning products). Although this can be avoided if you put some regular lotion on these spots before applying the gradual tanner and don't forget to exfoliate every now and again. The darker coloring on my knees and elbows doesn't really bother me that much so I don't worry about it. I would be careful with your hands if you happen to apply this multiple times in one day your hands might turn a slight orange but if you are only going to apply once daily don't worry about any orange palms. I do feel that I am darker but the color isn't as strong as if I would use just a regular self-tanner weekly. I like to use the gradual tanner instead and just maintain a healthy color rather than a fake color that changes daily. I do not think it has "toned" my skin in anyway but that is really okay with me I wasn't really thinking that was going to happen. You can see my other self-tanning reviews here.
Pros:
  • Inexpensive- purchased from local Wal-Mart
  • Smells AMAZING (just like a little tropical vacation in a bottle)
  • Very Moisturizing
  • Pump dispenser
  • Giant bottle (18 fl oz, to be exact)
  • No Animal Testing

Cons:

  • Doesn't come in color shades like light, medium, or dark (just a one size fits all kind of product)
  • Made with Parabens
  • No "toning or tightening" effects the product claims

Stay Tan!

Music Monday

While jammin' in the car on the way to work this morning while drinking my coffee, of course spilling it everywhere, I had a genius idea Music Monday; where I get to share some recent tunes I have been loving while getting ready in the morning (for work mostly). I think it sounds really inspirational. So for my first Music Monday I have decided on Drake's- Take Care ft. Rihanna. Now not only is the meaning for this song genius but pairing together two great artists for a love song is phenomenal. I just keep thinking about Rihanna's Love The Way You Lie ft. Eminem, except this song doesn't sound so dark and devilish. To me this song is more uplifting and peaceful. Hope you all will...
Enjoy =)

What songs do you like to jam to in the morning or while getting ready?
Keep on Jammin'

How do you...

Hey Ladies! I have been trying since January to try to get in shape. Now before we really get into this I am NOT saying that I am fat by any means. Just for myself and my health I would like to get into shape, not to lose weight, but to be able to run miles and feel good about myself. Anyways, I am a terrible eater I love to snack and eat fast food. I give into temptations everyday. I have given up drinking Pepsi daily. I now only drink soda probably 1-2 times a week. That is a huge improvement for me

I have a treadmill at my house and I purchased some cute running shoes to motivate myself. I did good for a little while walking/running 2-3 times a week for 30-60 minutes. I was feeling really good I tried to eat better and now I am stuck in this rut. I have made play lists of great running tunes and listening to Pandora stations. I have even watched beauty videos while running nothing like a little beauty motivation to kick myself into shape. It is all failing... help me

What kind of music do you listen to while working out?
What things motivate you to hop on the treadmill?

7 Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag

GREED- What is your most inexpensive beauty item? Most expensive?
My most inexpensive items are probably from e.l.f cosmetics for $1 or $3 or wet n wild lipsticks for $1.99. Sometimes great things come really inexpensive you just have to hunt for the good one. My most expensive items have to be the NAKED and NAKED 2 palettes from Urban Decay roughly $50.

WRATH- What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with? What products have been the hardest to get?
I have such a love/hate with highlighters. I will go months without any shimmer on my face and then BAM one day I am obsessed with highlighters. Hardest to get... I live in the middle of no where so getting anything MAC or from Sephora/Ulta I have to order it online and guess on the color swatches from online which I don't really love because they come back NOT what I thought they were going to look like.

GLUTTONY- What are your most delicious beauty products?
I am not really into smells in my products. I am not bothered by lip stick/gloss that taste or smell bad or good for that matter. So I am going to head to the shower for this one I love love body washes. The smell of a good body wash really wakes you up in the morning.

SLOTH- What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?
I hardly ever wear lip liner. I like the grab and go lip stick and I throw a lip gloss on over top while I am driving to lunch. I also sometimes forget an eyeshadow primer but usually doesn't cause that many problems

PRIDE- What beauty product gives you the most confidence?
I would say foundation. I used to have acne as a teenager and foundation really helps boost your confidence. Now I don't have as much acne but now I have a lot of redness and a good foundation helps to even that all out and leave you looking flawless. I hardly ever leave without a foundation on.

LUST- What attributes do you find attractive in the opposite sex?
Hmm... I love a good smile and when a guy has a little more style then just shorts and tee. Like cmon I wear more than just athletic clothes everyday, why can't you?

ENVY- What items would you most like to receive as a gift?
I am not totally obsessed with high end make-up but I do love to pamper myself with some good products now and again but I don't really spend a whole lot of money on hair products. I have healthy hair without spending a lot of money I can only imagine how great it would be if I spent money on good hair products.

Enjoy!

Zooniversity - Teach Me How To Bucky OOTD

If any of you follow college sports then you know that yesterday was the Rose Bowl Oregon Ducks Vs Wisconsin Badgers. I am from Wisconsin so see me above sporting my "Teach me how to Bucky" t-shirt that I got last year for Christmas. If you watched the game or are addicted to sports center like myself you know that the Badgers ended up losing. Overall a pretty lame game if you ask me. Lots of scoring, little action, and a lot of cheerleaders.
Now my shirt is an awesome spoof of the song "Teach Me How to Dougie" if you don't know check it out on YouTube. Some students of UW-Madison created an awesome song called "Teach Me How to Bucky" which features the actual dean of the college and band instructor. This video has had millions of views on YouTube.
