NOTD: Fall Shimmery Taupe

Hey Loves! I feel like I haven't done a nail of the day in a little while. I haven't been getting to creative with my nails lately usually just solid colors and nothing fancy. I decided to add a little sparkle this time. I used the same polish from another NOTD post (read that here). To me fall is all about neutrals, dark berry's, and deep blues. I am still on the hunt for a good midnight blue but I hear OPI makes a few. Another favorite deep berry polish of mine is by OPI called Lincoln Park After Dark--you will see a NOTD this fall with that color for sure! Today we are focusing just on the nude side of things.

Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant in 215 Smokey Taupe
Urban Decay Naked Polish in Sidecar
Seche Vita Dry Fast Top Coat

I love adding a little pop with an accent nail--this time I added a clear taupe with silver shimmer. Now this polish came from Urban Decays Naked Polish Collection which featured colors from the original Naked Eyeshadow Palette. I don't think that this product sold well because Urban Decay did not come out with any other polishes for the other two Naked Palettes.  I do like the colors that the set comes with but I think for the price the bottles of polish are very small at 0.16 fl oz and a standard polish is around 0.37-0.50--obviously Naked Polishes are significantly smaller.
I do feel that the color Sidecar is a unique color in that it is a nude taupe which isn't very pigmented so it is easy to layer over a pigmented base and has a lot of shimmer that isn't chunky and is very tiny in size. I have not found this type of color in any other polish brand before. If you know of one please let me know!
Hopefully you enjoyed this NOTD and have gotten some inspiration to create your own Fall inspired nails! Stay tuned for more fall orientated posts in the near future. Thanks for stopping and have a great day.

First Impression: Maybelline Matte Lipsticks

Hey loves! All the rage is about these new Maybelline Color Sensational  Matte Lipsticks. I have been on the hunt for these babies for at least a month. I kept seeing the displays at Shopko and Walgreen's but the actual product wasn't there! I finally found the whole line at Target. My Target had about 10 colors and I picked up two of them; one nude and one deep red.  I thought the other colors in the collection were a little bright for my liking. I picked up mine for $5.49 a piece.  The outside of the packing is a matte mauve plastic case. Yes these do have the classic Maybelline lipstick scent which does not bother me. Here are the two colors that I picked up:

Divine Wine
Daringly Nude
Swatches
Applied to Lips
No primer or liner

Wearing Daringly Nude
I had heard that these were going to be long wearing creamy matte shades. I was a little leery of this from a drugstore company. I am not saying that this can't be accomplished but in general most matte lipsticks are very drying on the lips. Now with any matte lipstick I would suggest a good exfoliation before applying so that the lipstick does not cling to dry patches or creases.
I was very surprised when I applied the lipsticks at just how creamy they actually were. I have other matte lipsticks from L'Oreal and those usually dry matte and do not transfer. I do think the over all feeling of these lipsticks is a thicker formula then most lipsticks but is not sticky or slippery. These Maybelline lipsticks stay creamy and do not dry to the touch until some wear happens. I wore these lipsticks for 4 hours and did eat and drink during that time. I did end up with lipstick transferring on to my coffee cup.. I do think the finish is a beautiful matte without looking overly dry on the lips. I would suggest to apply a chapstick between touch-ups just to keep the lips moisturized. I did try on the darker shade and this did stain my lips for awhile after I removed the lipstick so beware of that. I would suspect this of the rest of the darker shades as well.
The nude (Daringly Nude) in this line does remind me of a similar shade from the Maybelline Color Sensational in the Buffs line called Blushing Beige. The only difference is Blushing Beige gives off more of a glossy finish instead of matte and Daringly Nude seems to have better lasting power. If you are looking for a matte nude color I would totally suggest you check the matte lipstick out. I love the matte deep red because I think fall is the perfect time to wear those darker shades but I find the glossiness of many lipsticks to be over powering. My personal preference is a more matte dark shade.
Let me know if you check out any of these Maybelline Matte Lipsticks. I would love to hear what your opinions are. Do you have any other favorite matte lipsticks?

DIY-Purple Hair

Hey Loves! I am sure almost all of you know that I have moved within the past month or so and if you didn't well now you know. Since I have moved I am no longer with my fabulous old hair dresser Samantha. I last had my hair dyed in July and was in need for a new color or freshen up. Since I am back in school and not holding down a full-time job in health care I decided to go a little crazy this time--purple! If you have followed me for a long time then you know that I used to have purple highlights throughout my hair. This time since I had already bleached my hair in July and had red applied overtime I wanted to keep those highlights still visible and not cover them up by a dark color.
I contacted Samantha who hooked up me with the correct formulas and goodies needed to get purple hair at home. I used to dye my hair out of a box when I was in high school for several years. Since I know Samantha is amazing with hair and I might know a little bit about hair myself I had no problem reaching out for some advice. I purchased all of my supplies from Sally's Beauty Supply and ended up costing me around $30 but I will not have to purchase the bowls, brush, beaker, or developer next time--just the color itself.

2 Mixing Bowls
1 Brush
1 Color Beaker
1V Plum Black Age Beautiful Anti-Aging Haircolor
4V Dark Plum Brown Age Beautiful Anti-Aging Haircolor
10 Volume Age Beautiful 10-Volume Developer
20 Volume Age Beautiful 20-Volume Developer

As mentioned above I wanted to keep the top of my hair lighter then the underneath half. For the top I used the 4V Color and 20 Volume Developer to get a rich purple and used the 1V Color with the 10 Volume Developer for the bottom. To mix the color correctly you do 1 part color (1 ounce) with 1 part Developer ( 1 ounce). I used separate bowls so I would not get the colors mixed up before I applied them to my hair.
I had my roommate apply the color and then waited 30 minutes before rinsing out. I did use the whole tube of color which was 2 ounces so I used 2 ounces developer with each tube. I did not want to run out of color and I ended up using all of the color. My hair is around chest length with lots of layers and is not thick.

Before & After

After
As you can see my hair really took the color and came out looking very vibrant and rich. Now remember I had a reddish tint to begin with and the pieces were previously bleached so those pieces held the color very nicely. If you would apply this over a darker hair you would end up with more of a plum color. The underneath of my hair is almost black which isn't shown the best in the pictures.
I would suggest anyone who wants to color their hair check with a stylist first before doing anything to your hair. Remember that washing your hair less often will keep the color in longer and don't wash your hair for 48 hours after coloring this allows the color to truly develop before giving your hair a good washing.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and I would love to see picture if anyone else tries out the purple hair! Obviously, I am not guaranteeing that your hair will turn out the same as mine because every one's hair is different.

August Favorites

Hey loves! I have not done a favorites post in I don't even know how many months or years! I am so excited for August to be over and the fall weather to be coming. I love being bundled up with leggings and boots I can't wait! But don't get me wrong I love hot weather and also am sad to see that go. Lets jump into the things I have been loving this month:

Batiste Dry Shampoo A Hint of Colour Dark & Deep Brown
This is one of my all time favorite holy grail products. I have been trying my hardest to keep from washing my hair everyday since I moved. When I was back in my hometown I really didn't skip as often as I should of. For some reason living here it has become a lot easier to space out my washes to every other day which is amazing. I am going to be dying my hair soon so not washing will help extend my color.
There are so many reasons why I love this brand of dry shampoo not even just this flavor. All of the scents/flavors do not leave my hair with that ugly white cast at my roots. This soaks up all of the grease without that heavy feeling that some dry shampoos leave. All of the smells are amazing I might add.

American Eagle  AEO Vintage Body Mist

I just purchased this body spray at American Eagle this past weekend because they had 25% off of all their perfumes and body sprays. This was my favorite scent that they had. I love this scent because I think it is the perfect transition scent from summer to fall. I love the fruitiness of this but then the musky scent at the end is amazing. I obviously am not good at describing scents so I found the key notes online for you. Top notes are mandarin orange and apple; middle notes are white flowers. lotus. rose and mango; base notes are praline, musk and white woods. So if you are on the hunt for a good mid-season scent check this out. The body mist retails for $19.95 for 8 fl oz which I believe is the same size as the Bath & Body Works Mists.

e.l.f. Eye Lash Curler
I have always had an eye lash curler laying around but I never really was in the habit of curling my lashes daily. I used to curl my lashes probably once a month-maybe. I didn't curl my lashes because they are so long that they just bent at the root and stuck straight up almost past my eye brow. So recently I have been just giving them a little attention with a my e.l.f Eye Lash Curler for a few seconds just to add a little volume. I am thinking about investing in a more expensive one-- but nothing crazy because I don't want super curled lashes that look unnatural and fake.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Blushing Beige

This little gem has been laying around in my lipstick collection for months but I rediscovered this since I moved and have reorganized my makeup collection. I have always been really into nude lips but for some reason I always thought this was "too nude" for me but now I just love it. I like to rock a brown smokey eye with this lip stick and girl, it looks phenomenal.

Revlon Photoready Bronzer in Bronzed & Chic

This bronzer used to be a total drugstore holy grail but then I lost her in one of my older purses when I switched out of it into a new one. I have recently hit pan!! I love using this to contour my face as well as add a little color to my neck so my foundation matches perfectly. I am hoping this is still available at the drugstore. If you need a good bronzer that isn't orange you might want to check this out.

Lip Combo:
Revlon Lipstick in Nude Attitude
Covergirl Lip Liner in Splendid
Besides using my Maybelline Lipstick mentioned above this has been my go to lip combo for the month and I did a separate post on this lip combo here.  These are more rediscovered favorites so go check out that post for more information.

Skinny Jeans
I have been so in love with skinny jeans this month! I think I am getting in the fall mood for those skinny jeans and boots to come out! Since I spend a good amount of my day inside my college in the air conditioning I like to wear jeans to keep myself warm. I have recently purchased to new pairs of skinny's from American Eagle and I am in love! Other places that I love to find skinny's is Kohls and Target. I like to get the stretchy ones so I don't feel like I am stuck and suffocating inside my pants all day. I am all about that comfort ladies!

Hopefully you guys enjoyed my August Beauty Favorites! Non-beauty I have been loving taking walks, my new Brita water filter pitcher and everything involving noodles. I have been walking to class everyday and love that little bit of time to relax and reflect each day. I am trying to force myself to drink more water so I picked up a Brita water pitcher so I can have cold filtered water at my little finger tips all day long! Of course, I am a carb-o-holic so I would love anything involving pasta. Let me know what are some of your favorites this month.

Ulta Order

Hey Loves! So instead of waiting until I received my order from Ulta I decided to post up what I purchased before the 20% off sale was over. If you are not subscribed to receive Ulta's email updates you need too. Not only do you get alerted of new products and special offers you get email's like this that tell you of great SALES. You need to be careful when you get sale emails because I often find myself getting sucked into buying things because I am getting a percentage off. Be aware that not all products on the website or in-store qualify for the coupons.

If you order online you can use the coupon code "202040" at the checkout to have the coupon apply to your order. Usually the 20% off applies to like drugstore products, some fragrance, and hair products. I found that most luxury brands are not included in on this coupon. The sale is good through September 6th and if you go through eBates you can earn cash back on your order. If you don't have eBates use my link at the bottom of the page to join so you can earn cash back on all of your online shopping orders.
Here is what I purchased and none of my products were included in on the coupon this time around but I needed to refill a few holy grail products anyways.

What I purchased-
  • Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser by Philosophy
  • Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate by Anastasia Beverly Hills
  • De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray by Urban Decay
  • Miracle Complexion Sponge by Real Techniques
  • Acne Replacement Brush Head by Clarisonic
  • Variety Samples--always get with each order
If you notice I also ordered the 15 piece beauty bag as well. If you order online there are often deals like this that are available if you check out the homepage of Ulta's website. I love getting these types of deals because you get to try out products that normally you wouldn't be able too. I have a basket of samples that sits on my vanity and I try to use the products when I remember too. I like to take the samples of lotions, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash on vacation with me because they take up less space and are already travel friendly. Now for this deal you had to purchase $50.00 to get the beauty bag free which I did so I ended up not paying anything. I love that with this you also get a free make-up bag which who doesn't love those?! This one happens to be leopard. I am not complaining.

Hopefully this will help you guys pick out some goodies for your next Ulta shopping trip or give you some ideas to add to your "to try" list. These are all repeat offenders for me and I will continue to purchase until I find something better. Happy Shopping!

What College Taught Me- Beauty Edition

Hey loves! If you follow my blogs or social media posts on the regular you know that I have recently moved away from my hometown and went back to college full-time. I have previously taken 1.5 years of college in my hometown but currently I am in a bigger city. Since I have a crazy obsession with makeup and hair I took note of a few things from my new college surroundings-- lets get started.
Now I am talking about academics here I am talking just my surroundings walking to and from class, during class, and chilling in the commons area-- here is what I have learned

  • Showering is optional-- apparently the smell of body odor and greasy hair is the fragrance this fall
  • Wearing sweat pants from your boyfriends closet paired with a tight t-shirt is the go to look
  • August 29th and 80 degrees is a good time to start breaking out the boots and sweaters
  • Leggings are a must for everyone guys or girls
  • Stilettos help you get to class a lot faster--- rapid speed
  • Wearing your student ID by lanyard or belt chain allows everyone to know you really actually go to school here--in case anyone cared or forgot
  • Having 16 different gel pens will help you learn better
  • If you want to be in the beauty program then you need to look like Snooki or Jwoww no questions asked
Oh, don't worry I didn't forget about hair or makeup

  • Winged liner out to hair line is on point
  • That orange glow must be coming from the recessed lighting
  • Random black dots across your eye in the crease is the new cut crease technique
  • Lime green is lid color
  • Wearing every hairstyle at once looks good - curly, straight, up, down, braid, and side pony! Oh, don't forget the bang poof as well.
  • Fake-Ombre: I am too lazy to touch-up my roots so I am just calling it Ombre
  • Must have more than one hair accessory in at a time - flowers, bows, headbands
Ladies, now listen I know we all dream of either that hot buff jock or that geeky nerd that can fix everything. I don't mean to burst your bubble but they just don't exist. I mean there definitely are nerdy boys that look good from the waist up with their hot black framed glasses and polos but those too short pants and New Balance Sneakers just screams Dad to me.
Girl, I know coming Tuesday I am going to be looking so good because I know I have been doing it all wrong! Shoot. Did I miss anything?  Hopefully you sense the sarcasm in my post but if you didn't I really did see all of these things and if you are guilty of them you should think about changing your ways. =)
