BLOGcember Review: Soft Matte Lip Cream

Hey Loves! BLOGcember has now begun--make sure you check back each day for a new review on all different types of beauty products. First I have chosen to review a new favorite of mine NYX's soft matte lip cream in the color Cannes-let's get started:

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes
Hand Swatch- Natural Light Indoors

Where can you find this product?
I find most of my NYX products at Ulta or Target

How much is this product?
Usually retails between $5-$6. Ulta usually has BOGO sales or Buy one Get one Half price. This lip cream contains 0.27 fl ounces which is a really amount of product.

Available in other shades?
NYX has 22 Soft Matte Lip Creams available with a great color range.

Lasting Power?
At least 4 hours with drinking and eating if you let dry completely

Pigmentation?
Highly pigmented--only need one coat to cover lips and shows true to color of the packaging. I would describe this shade as everyday wearable your lips but better pink.

How would I rate this product?
4/5 only because this is a matte product and with most mattes there is a drying effect that occurs with wear so I would suggest moisturizing your lips before use and after with a lip balm.

Any dupes?
This color is similar to Maybelline's The Mattes Lipstick in Touch of Spice

I do find that before the lip cream dries that it feels almost oily on the lips but then dries perfectly matte. Once dry I have found that the color doesn't transfer onto my coffee cup at all. Overall I think this is an awesome drugstore matte lip option. I am hoping to get more colors in the future.

Tips for Staying Healthy During Winter

Hey loves! I know this isn't my typical beauty post but I think staying healthy during cold season is very important as well. We all know the feeling of laying in bed for days with a cough and fever. How miserable! No one wants to waste their precious vacation time on an illness that should be used on fun things, right?

Drink Water
I am sure you have heard this a million and one times but water is very important in keeping your cells and body functioning properly. The recommended amount of water is half of your body weight in ounces daily. I know that seems like a lot but if you carry a water bottle at all times is can actually be accomplished very easily.

Regular Exercise
Again this is not only great during the winter months but all year. Exercise can help to maintain weight, increase mood, and decrease risks for disease. I know when I exercise regularly I find that I am more productive.

More Sleep
Getting the recommended 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep per night can help you maintain focus and keep an increased energy level. Maintaining a regular schedule will allow to make healthier food choices staying away from sugary drinks like soda to keep your mind sharp during the day.

Nutrition
Year around you need to be consuming a fair number of fruits and vegetables but this is ever so important during the winter months. Increased levels of Vitamin C are thought to help rid off colds and flu's. If you are not a fan of veggies or fruit trying juicing!

Hand washing
If you work in healthcare then you know the number one way to stop the spread of germs is by proper hand washing. Remember to get all surfaces of your hand including between your fingers for at least 15 seconds.

Hopefully you find these tips helpful in keeping yourself healthy during the cold and flu season. Remember hand sanitizer can be your friend when out in public places where your exposure risk increases.

DIY: Gum Ball Machine Costume

Hey Loves! I know Halloween is past but I thought I would still post a a little DIY Halloween costume in case you wanted to pin this for next year! I actually found the idea for a gum ball machine on Pinterest in the first place. I couldn't find step by step by directions so I just did what I thought would work. Here is how I did it:

What you need:

-Tank Top (I used white)
-White Skirt or Red Skirt
-Rit Dye (optional if using red skirt)
-Hot Glue Gun
-Felt (black, grey, and white)
-Multicolored PomPom's
-Magic Marker

I could not find a red skirt so I used a white skirt and dyed it red using Rit dye. You can find Rit dye at most craft stores (Michaels or Wal-Mart). I do not follow the directions on the bottle. I use a large pot or container and fill with hot tap water and add half of the bottle of dye. I let the clothing item sit in the water for 1-2 hours stirring occasionally.  I then rinse out the item until the water runs mostly clear.I let the garment sit out over night and repeat the process the next day. I usually don't fully wash the garment I just let it dry overnight and throw in the dryer the next day with a dryer sheet to soften the fabric.

Once you have your skirt dyed you can begin the gum top! This is super easy, I promise. All you need to do is put a line of glue across the top and then quickly add PomPom's on top. I did about half across at a time so the glue didn't totally dry. I also later went back and added extra Poms in white spaces. Be careful and don't do the whole shirt because your skirt will probably have a high waist and cover a good portion.  Make sure to try on the top and skirt so you don't go over board with the PomPom's.

Finally, you will need to create the gumball machine face! I used a rectangle piece of grey and added a black slot and level arm. I just guessed the shape and sizes. I added a white square that said "25 cents" with Magic Marker (Sharpie). Now, I live in Wisconsin therefore Halloween is normally very cold so I ended up adding suede boots and a black open faced cardigan to stay warm!

I just curled my hair with a one inch barrel and the lipstick I wore was Viva Glam Nicki by MAC. I thought a bubble gum pink was totally appropriate for the look. Hopefully this gives you  a little inspiration for next year costume! I only ended up spending around $20 but if you already have a skirt or tank top you will end up spending less. Good luck!

NOTD: Grey Ombré Nails

Hey Loves! I went on Pinterest to find a some inspiration to paint my nails. I ran across a few pictures of ombré nails and I loved the idea. I chose to use white, grey, and black colors for my ombré. You honestly can use whatever colors you have on hand or make a rainbow of colors of you please!

Polishes
Natural Lighting Inside
Natural Lighting Outside

Polishes Used:
White- New York Color Long-Wearing Nail Enamel in 134A
Silver Glitter- Sinful Colors in Queen of Beauty
Light Grey- Zoya Polish in Dove
Gun Metal Grey- Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in 22 Gunmetal
Black- Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in 370 Black Out
Top Coat- Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat

I applied the white polish on both the pinky and ring fingers. I used the white as a base for the silver glitter so the color would stand out more. You can obviously use any color to get ombre affect. I think pink/red or green would be awesome for a transition into the fall/winter seasons. Tweet me your pictures if you try this out or add them to my facebook page Wiscobeauty! I would love to see all of your creations.
